Why It Lands

Wanting More Counts As Strength

Prior Walter says this near the end of his story, worn down by illness and grief, with every reason to settle for less. He doesn't dress it up as gratitude or acceptance. He just names the appetite plainly: he wants more, and he refuses to apologize for it. The turn is that this isn't weakness talking, it's nerve. Most of us are taught to shrink our wanting down to something modest and easier to defend. This line doesn't buy that. On an ordinary Tuesday, when you catch yourself minimizing what you want, you're allowed to say it out loud instead.

Some days the bravest thing you can say is that you're not done wanting yet.
