Why did the notebook stay so calm?

It had nothing but blank pages ahead of it.

The joke plays on "blank pages ahead" meaning both literally empty notebook pages and the idiom about having a fresh start or uncertain future! The first mass-produced notebooks appeared in the 1920s, but people have been binding blank pages together since ancient Egypt. Modern bullet journals have turned blank notebooks into a $300 million industry focused on mindfulness and organization.
