Ingredients
1 cup diced ham
3 cups chicken broth
2 cups diced potatoes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup milk
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup frozen corn
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Directions
1.
Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced ham and chopped onion. Cook for about 5 minutes until onion softens.
2.
Stir in the flour, coating the ham and onion, and cook for another 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
3.
Gradually whisk in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
4.
Add the diced potatoes to the pot. Cover and allow to cook for 15 minutes, until the potatoes are tender.
5.
Stir in the milk, frozen corn, black pepper, and garlic powder. Heat the mixture for about 5 minutes until warm.
6.
Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it melts into the chowder, creating a creamy consistency.
